Half my research group seems to carry this book with them constantly. At first glance, Friedberg’s elegantly crafted written work might not seem like an obvious source for digital reinterpretation.

My colleagues love it. The screen in its current form is no longer a light-reflecting material requiring depth in space — anns it is a light-emitting material getting flatter and thinner with each development. And while the points are frequently interesting I’m not sure it amounts to a point that can be summarized or at least the conclusion doesn’t suggest that it does.

Taking Alberti’s metaphor as her starting point, Friedberg tracks shifts in the perspectival paradigm as she gives us histories of the architectural window, developments in glass and transparency, and the emerging apparatuses of photography, cinema, television, and digital imaging.
